OPPO and Discovery Introduce Filmmaker Accelerator as “Culture in a Shot” Enters Third Year

SHENZHEN, April 20— OPPO, in partnership with Discovery, announced the launch of the third edition of its global initiative, Culture in a Shot. Marking the third year of this collaboration, the 2026 edition introduces the Filmmaker Accelerator Program, designed to empower global creators. Under the theme of this year “Meet Culture Anew, Make Your Moment,” the initiative continues to evolve as a global platform exploring how culture is evolved and lived in today’s world.

“Culture is not only something we inherit — it is something we actively shape through how we live, connect, and express ourselves,” said Ling Liu, OPPO Overseas CMO. “With Culture in a Shot, we aim to present culture as a living, evolving presence, and to enable more people to engage with it in their own ways.”

From Capturing Culture to Enabling Cultural Expression

Building on previous themes Portraits of Legacy and Celebrate the Moment, the theme of 2026 edition “Meet Culture Anew, Make Your Moment” turns toward culture as a living and evolving experience shaped through everyday moments of connection, creativity, and expression.

In an increasingly connected world, culture is no longer defined solely by heritage or geography. Across short-form video, fashion, food, and everyday interactions, a new generation is redefining how culture is expressed — not only preserving it, but actively reshaping it through participation.

Rather than simply documenting tradition, today’s creators are engaging with culture in real time — interpreting, reshaping, and sharing it through their own perspectives. This shift is making cultural storytelling more immediate, diverse, and accessible than ever before.

Filmmaker Accelerator: Expanding Pathways for New Generations of Creators

At the center of this year’s Culture in a Shot initiative is the newly launched Filmmaker Accelerator Program, designed to support new generations of creators worldwide in developing culturally inspired stories with cinematic expression.

Jointly launched by OPPO and Discovery, the program provides creators with tailored end-to-end mentorship across storytelling, filming, and post-production. Alongside mentorship from industry professionals, participants are also supported with grants and OPPO’s latest smartphone devices to bring their creative visions to life.

The resulting works will be featured as part of the Culture in a Shot project and shared across OPPO x Discovery collaboration website, providing creators with broader visibility.

Creators participating in the Super Video category of the OPPO Photography Awards 2026 will have the opportunity to be invited to join the Filmmaker Accelerator Program.

Through these efforts, OPPO and Discovery aim to empower creators to document and share their unique cultural stories, celebrating culture diversity.

Bringing Cultural Stories to a Global Audience

Alongside the Filmmaker Accelerator, Culture in a Shot continues its global journey of cultural exploration. In 2026, OPPO and Discovery has collaborated on new content starting in Singapore, exploring how Peranakan cuisine is continuously reinterpreted in contemporary life.

The initiative also extends through the OPPO Culture Challenge, which invites users worldwide to participate by capturing cultural moments inspired by local festivals and everyday experiences on TikTok using the hashtag #OPPOCultureChallenge. Through these diverse formats, the program encourages broader participation and brings diverse cultural expressions to wider audiences.

With a presence in more than 90 countries and regions, Culture has become an integral part of OPPO’s global identity. Through Culture in a Shot, OPPO and Discovery present culture as a living and evolving presence — shaped by participation, creativity, and connection. By transforming raw creative passion into impactful narratives, the initiative also seeks to amplify local identities on a global stage. As more people engage with culture in their own ways, they meet culture anew — and make their moment part of its evolving story.

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines, March 2026 - SM Supermalls unveils SM City Zamboanga, its 90th mall in the Philippines, designed as an architectural expression of the culture and artistry of the Zamboanga Peninsula. The mall translates the city’s rich visual traditions into a contemporary lifestyle space where design reflects identity, heritage, and movement. Located along Mayor Vitaliano Agan Avenue in Camino Nuevo, the four level development spans about 61,000 square meters. The building rises with a modern silhouette that introduces a new architectural landmark for the city while drawing inspiration from the artistic traditions that define Zamboanga. Its geometric patterns and bold color combinations have become a visual signature of the region. Insi...
