SM CITY SANTO TOMAS BRINGS BACK CHAN LIM ART EXHIBIT Where Traditional Chinese Art Meets Technology

 SM City Santo Tomas proudly brings to life the 51st showcase of the iconic Chan Lim Family of Artists and Painters. This extraordinary exhibit, running from January 26 to February 16, 2025, celebrates Chinese New Year through a fusion of timeless art and cutting-edge AI technology.




The exhibit showcases traditional Chinese Art painted in scrolls, umbrellas, and lanterns arranged in an immersive tunnel where the paintings come to life with the help of AI.



Present in the formal balloon popping ceremony for the exhibit opening is Dr. Alex Chan Lim (2nd from left), who started the family art tradition. The exhibit, located at the Atrium of SM City Santo Tomas, offers visitors a captivating journey into Chinese traditional culture. A highlight of the event is the Garden Sensory Tunnel, where live animations of art, paint, and color create a sensory spectacle like no other. This immersive experience blends tradition with innovation, perfectly encapsulating the exhibit’s theme of art and technology fusion.

The Garden Sensory Tunnel is set to invite art enthusiasts to explore the wonders of every stroke in motion.


Every umbrella tells a different story. From blooming flowers to feisty dragons, every piece and subject were painted with intricacy.


This 15 foot scroll was painted by the Chan Lim family in three generations, showcasing beautiful lakes around the world in one magnificent landscape.


The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Dr. Alex Chan Lim, who shared the family’s vision of preserving Chinese culture through art. With intricate pieces crafted by various family members, the Chan Lim Collection showcases their immense talent in storytelling, strokes, and colors.

Showcasing Sixty (60) intricately designed lanterns, One Hundred and Forty (140) mastered painted umbrellas, and Eighty Three (83) treasured scrolls, art enthusiasts and visitors will enjoy the exhibit even more.




Transcending all ages, these captivating art pieces delight shoppers to immerse in the stories each of these crafts tell.

SM City Santo Tomas also emphasized engaging the younger generation by inviting students from Inosluban-Marawoy Integrated National High School and National University to experience the fusion of traditional hand-painting techniques and technology. This interactive initiative allowed students to appreciate art in its evolving forms, inspiring them to carry forward the legacy of creativity and culture.

Students from Inosluban Marawoy Integrated National High School were taught how to do proper strokes in creating watercolor paintings during the free art workshop.
